A Lake(兌 ☱) pooling above the Earth(坤 ☷) — a hexagram where people and water gather.
萃 is gathering — as water pools in a lake, people gather like clouds. When the Judgment says the king comes to the temple (王假有廟) and it is favourable to meet a great person (利見大人), a gathering needs a center and a cause, or it scatters. It is a season of rich cohesion — yet one whose focal point must be well set.
The upper trigram is Lake(兌 ☱, Metal), the lower Earth(坤 ☷). Water pooling above the Earth — people drawn together in one place.
The Jiaoshi Yilin sets sixty-four verses under every hexagram. On a day this hexagram keeps, the verse daycolor offers for today can be one of only six — the verses of the six hexagrams reached when a single line moves. If the bottom line moves, it is Following(隨) · sun through rain; the second, Oppression(困) · both at once; the third, Influence(咸) · sun through rain; the fourth, Holding Together(比) · with the current; the fifth, Enthusiasm(豫) · with the current; the top, Standstill(否) · sun through rain. The words after each name give the grain of that verse — a cue to its mood, not a verdict of fortune or misfortune; the three are explained under the Jiaoshi Yilin in the glossary. Which line moves is decided by a number drawn from your own saju together with the stems and branches of that day.
In the six-days-seven-fen (六日七分) day-arrangement of the Jiaoshi Yilin, this hexagram holds the fourteenth of the fifteen places in the Summer Solstice(夏至) quarter. In most years that is about six days, from around September 10 to 16, in the solar term White Dew (白露) — when the nights cool and dew gathers on the grass. The place before it belongs to The Gentle(巽); the place after, to The Taming Power of the Great(大畜). The exact dates shift a little each year; which hexagram governs today can be seen, with your own chart, in the main app. Why the days are divided this way is set out under Jikil in the glossary.
This is a place where people and purpose gather in one. 萃 is gathering — a great gathering needs a center, so coming to the temple (王假有廟) and meeting a great one is favourable. In gathering, prepare too for the unforeseen (戒不虞): the power of a gathering grows upon order.
