Thunder(震 ☳) sunk beneath a Lake(兌 ☱) — a hexagram of moving with the flow.
隨 means to follow. As thunder settles within the lake and waits quietly for its time, this is a place of not forcing your way ahead but giving yourself to the natural current. The Judgment — great progress, and no fault if one stays upright (元亨利貞 无咎) — means the following becomes strength only when it keeps its rightness.
The upper trigram is Lake(兌 ☱, Metal), the lower Thunder(震 ☳, Wood). Thunder sunk within a Lake — the shape of following the time in quiet.
The Jiaoshi Yilin sets sixty-four verses under every hexagram. On a day this hexagram keeps, the verse daycolor offers for today can be one of only six — the verses of the six hexagrams reached when a single line moves. If the bottom line moves, it is Gathering Together(萃) · with the current; the second, The Joyous(兌) · sun through rain; the third, Revolution(革) · both at once; the fourth, Difficulty at the Beginning(屯) · with the current; the fifth, The Arousing(震) · with the current; the top, Innocence(无妄) · with the current. The words after each name give the grain of that verse — a cue to its mood, not a verdict of fortune or misfortune; the three are explained under the Jiaoshi Yilin in the glossary. Which line moves is decided by a number drawn from your own saju together with the stems and branches of that day.
In the six-days-seven-fen (六日七分) day-arrangement of the Jiaoshi Yilin, this hexagram holds the fourteenth of the fifteen places in the Winter Solstice(冬至) quarter. In most years that is about six days, from around March 9 to 14, in the solar term Awakening of Insects (驚蟄) — when what slept underground through the winter begins to wake. The place before it belongs to Waiting / Nourishment(需); the place after, to Progress(晉). The exact dates shift a little each year; which hexagram governs today can be seen, with your own chart, in the main app. Why the days are divided this way is set out under Jikil in the glossary.
This is a place to follow the time and the current rather than lead. 隨 is not blind obedience but the suppleness to see what is right and follow it gladly. Set down your stubbornness, follow the upright, and there is no fault.
