해(解)는 풀림, 봄 우레가 치며 언 땅이 녹는 자리입니다. 매듭이 풀리고 갇혔던 것이 놓여나니, 험난함을 지나 해방으로 나아가는 시기입니다. 괘사가 갈 곳이 없으면 돌아옴이 길하고, 갈 곳이 있으면 서둘러야 길하다(夙吉)고 한 것처럼, 풀린 기회는 머뭇대지 말고 붙잡으라 합니다.
상괘는 우레 雷(震·목), 하괘는 물 水(坎·수)입니다. 물상으로는 우레가 치고 비가 내려 맺힌 것이 풀리는 형상에 견주어집니다.

막혔던 것이 풀리는 해방의 자리입니다. 해(解)는 얼음이 녹듯 어려움이 풀림 — 험난이 지나간 때이지요. 갈 곳 없으면 돌아와 쉬고, 할 일 있으면 서둘러 하라(有攸往 夙吉) 합니다. 풀렸을 때 늦추지 말고 매듭을 정리합니다.

解 is release — the place where spring thunder cracks and the frozen ground melts. Knots come loose and what was shut is set free, so it is a season of passing through hardship into deliverance. As the Judgment says that with nowhere to go, returning is fortunate, and with somewhere to go, hastening is fortunate (夙吉), a loosened chance is to be seized without dawdling.
The upper trigram is Thunder(震 ☳, Wood), the lower Water(坎 ☵). Thunder cracking and rain falling — what was knotted comes loose.
The Jiaoshi Yilin sets sixty-four verses under every hexagram. In the six-days-seven-fen (六日七分) day-arrangement of the Jiaoshi Yilin, this hexagram holds the first of the fifteen places in the Spring Equinox(春分) quarter. In most years that is about six days, from around March 21 to 27, in the solar term Spring Equinox (春分) — when day and night stand equal and the spring air rises. The place before it belongs to The Arousing(震), the cardinal hexagram that opens this quarter; the place after, to Great Power(大壯). This is a place of deliverance, where what was blocked comes loose. 解 is the thawing of hardship, like ice melting — a time when peril has passed. With nowhere to go, come back and rest; with something to do, do it quickly (有攸往 夙吉). Once loosened, do not delay — tie off the loose ends.
