Thunder(震 ☳) pealing loud above Heaven(乾 ☰) — a hexagram of thriving force.
大壯 is great vigour, the place where 陽 energy stretches out at full strength. Yet the Judgment governs that strength with a single phrase — rightness is favourable (利貞). The more force overflows, the more it must not be shoved forward: the wisdom of sparing the ram whose horns catch in the fence (羝羊觸藩) is this hexagram's shade.
The upper trigram is Thunder(震 ☳, Wood), the lower Heaven(乾 ☰, Metal). Thunder pealing loud above the sky — force rising vigorously.
The Jiaoshi Yilin sets sixty-four verses under every hexagram. On a day this hexagram keeps, the verse daycolor offers for today can be one of only six — the verses of the six hexagrams reached when a single line moves. If the bottom line moves, it is Duration(恒) · sun through rain; the second, Abundance(豐) · sun through rain; the third, The Marrying Maiden(歸妹) · sun through rain; the fourth, Peace / Harmony(泰) · sun through rain; the fifth, Breakthrough(夬) · with the current; the top, Great Possession(大有) · sun through rain. The words after each name give the grain of that verse — a cue to its mood, not a verdict of fortune or misfortune; the three are explained under the Jiaoshi Yilin in the glossary. Which line moves is decided by a number drawn from your own saju together with the stems and branches of that day.
In the six-days-seven-fen (六日七分) day-arrangement of the Jiaoshi Yilin, this hexagram holds the second of the fifteen places in the Spring Equinox(春分) quarter. In most years that is about six days, from around March 27 to April 2, in the solar term Spring Equinox (春分) — when day and night stand equal and the spring air rises. The place before it belongs to Deliverance(解); the place after, to Enthusiasm(豫). The exact dates shift a little each year; which hexagram governs today can be seen, with your own chart, in the main app. Why the days are divided this way is set out under Jikil in the glossary.
This is a place of greatly thriving strength. 大壯 is the peak of firm energy — but trust force alone and push carelessly, and the horns catch in the fence (羝羊觸藩). Used upon rightness (利貞) and with propriety, great strength becomes a blessing, not a harm.
