Earth(坤 ☷) above, Heaven(乾 ☰) below — a hexagram where high and low flow into each other.
Heavy earth sits above and light heaven below, so the two move toward one another and meet. Thus 泰 is peace that passes through without blockage. As the Judgment says, the small goes and the great comes (小往大來) — a rare harmony where energy rises and falls and circulates all around.
The upper trigram is Earth(坤 ☷), the lower Heaven(乾 ☰, Metal). Earth above and Heaven below, rising and sinking toward each other.
The Jiaoshi Yilin sets sixty-four verses under every hexagram. On a day this hexagram keeps, the verse daycolor offers for today can be one of only six — the verses of the six hexagrams reached when a single line moves. If the bottom line moves, it is Pushing Upward(升) · with the current; the second, Darkening of the Light(明夷) · with the current; the third, Approach(臨) · sun through rain; the fourth, Great Power(大壯) · with the current; the fifth, Waiting / Nourishment(需) · with the current; the top, The Taming Power of the Great(大畜) · with the current. The words after each name give the grain of that verse — a cue to its mood, not a verdict of fortune or misfortune; the three are explained under the Jiaoshi Yilin in the glossary. Which line moves is decided by a number drawn from your own saju together with the stems and branches of that day.
In the six-days-seven-fen (六日七分) day-arrangement of the Jiaoshi Yilin, this hexagram holds the twelfth of the fifteen places in the Winter Solstice(冬至) quarter. In most years that is about six days, from around February 25 to March 3, in the solar term Rain Water (雨水) — when snow turns to rain and the ice begins to loosen. The place before it belongs to Gradual Progress(漸); the place after, to Waiting / Nourishment(需). The exact dates shift a little each year; which hexagram governs today can be seen, with your own chart, in the main app. Why the days are divided this way is set out under Jikil in the glossary.
This is a place of peace where high and low, inner and outer, pass through well; energy flows both ways and things go smoothly. Only — after 泰 (peace) comes 否 (blockage). When things flow well, guard against pride and shore up your foundations.
