The sun — Fire(離 ☲) — hung high above Heaven(乾 ☰): a hexagram of holding much.
大有 is possessing greatly, the fruit of effort. As the sun at the sky's center lights all things, this is a bright and ample place. Yet its shaded counsel is that the more one holds, the more humility and sharing must follow — abundance is completed in the manner that keeps it.
The upper trigram is Fire(離 ☲), the lower Heaven(乾 ☰, Metal). The sun hung high in the sky, holding much as it lights all things.
The Jiaoshi Yilin sets sixty-four verses under every hexagram. On a day this hexagram keeps, the verse daycolor offers for today can be one of only six — the verses of the six hexagrams reached when a single line moves. If the bottom line moves, it is The Cauldron(鼎) · sun through rain; the second, The Clinging(離) · with the current; the third, Opposition(睽) · with the current; the fourth, The Taming Power of the Great(大畜) · with the current; the fifth, The Creative(乾) · sun through rain; the top, Great Power(大壯) · both at once. The words after each name give the grain of that verse — a cue to its mood, not a verdict of fortune or misfortune; the three are explained under the Jiaoshi Yilin in the glossary. Which line moves is decided by a number drawn from your own saju together with the stems and branches of that day.
In the six-days-seven-fen (六日七分) day-arrangement of the Jiaoshi Yilin, this hexagram holds the thirteenth of the fifteen places in the Spring Equinox(春分) quarter. In most years that is about six days, from around June 3 to 9, as Grain Buds (小滿) gives way to Grain in Ear (芒種) — the busiest time of the year, when barley is cut and rice is set out. The place before it belongs to The Creative(乾); the place after, to The Family(家人). The exact dates shift a little each year; which hexagram governs today can be seen, with your own chart, in the main app. Why the days are divided this way is set out under Jikil in the glossary.
This is a place of holding and enjoying greatly; the fruit of effort ripens. Only — the larger the holding, the more humility and sharing are the key. As the sun lights all things without hoarding them, it is in giving that such greatness lasts.
