A Lake(兌 ☱) brimming above Heaven(乾 ☰) — a hexagram pushing out the last one.
夬 means to break open and cut away. Five 陽 lines have grown and push out the single 陰 left at the top, so it is a season for making a long-deferred decision. Yet the Judgment warns of danger (有厲) and bids one make it known openly at court rather than by force (揚于王庭) — cut away, but do it justly and with care, not by driving hard.
The upper trigram is Lake(兌 ☱, Metal), the lower Heaven(乾 ☰, Metal). A Lake brimming over Heaven — about to burst and pour.
The Jiaoshi Yilin sets sixty-four verses under every hexagram. On a day this hexagram keeps, the verse daycolor offers for today can be one of only six — the verses of the six hexagrams reached when a single line moves. If the bottom line moves, it is Preponderance of the Great(大過) · sun through rain; the second, Revolution(革) · sun through rain; the third, The Joyous(兌) · sun through rain; the fourth, Waiting / Nourishment(需) · sun through rain; the fifth, Great Power(大壯) · sun through rain; the top, The Creative(乾) · with the current. The words after each name give the grain of that verse — a cue to its mood, not a verdict of fortune or misfortune; the three are explained under the Jiaoshi Yilin in the glossary. Which line moves is decided by a number drawn from your own saju together with the stems and branches of that day.
In the six-days-seven-fen (六日七分) day-arrangement of the Jiaoshi Yilin, this hexagram holds the seventh of the fifteen places in the Spring Equinox(春分) quarter. In most years that is about six days, from around April 27 to May 3, in the solar term Grain Rain (穀雨) — when spring rain falls to feed the grain. The place before it belongs to Revolution(革); the place after, to The Wanderer(旅). The exact dates shift a little each year; which hexagram governs today can be seen, with your own chart, in the main app. Why the days are divided this way is set out under Jikil in the glossary.
This is a place to break open and decide what has piled up. 夬 is five 陽 pushing out the one remaining 陰 — yet rather than forcing by strength, one must make it known openly (揚于王庭) and decide by what is true. Cause over force, rightness over haste, is the key.
