태(兌)는 못이자 기쁨입니다. 두 못이 서로 물을 대어 마르지 않듯, 사람과 사람이 즐거움을 주고받는 자리입니다. 괘사가 형통하니 곧음이 이롭다(亨 利貞)고 한 것은, 참된 기쁨이란 겉으로 웃는 데 그치지 않고 안이 바를 때 오래간다는 뜻입니다 — 웃음과 소통이 두터워지는 시기입니다.
상·하가 모두 못 澤(兌)인 겹괘이며, 오행으로는 금(金) 기운에 듭니다. 물상으로는 두 못이 나란히 잇닿아 서로를 적시는 형상, 기뻐하는 자리에 견주어집니다.
焦氏易林은 괘 하나마다 예순네 편의 시구를 달아 두었습니다. 중택태가 하루를 맡은 날 daycolor가 오늘의 시구로 건넬 수 있는 것은 그 가운데 여섯 편 — 여섯 효 가운데 하나가 움직여 닿는 여섯 괘의 시구입니다. 맨 아래 효가 움직이면 택수곤(澤水困) · 비 사이로 햇살, 둘째 효면 택뢰수(澤雷隨) · 비 사이로 햇살, 셋째 효면 택천쾌(澤天夬) · 순(順), 넷째 효면 수택절(水澤節) · 비 사이로 햇살, 다섯째 효면 뇌택귀매(雷澤歸妹) · 비 사이로 햇살, 맨 위 효면 천택리(天澤履) · 비 사이로 햇살. 이름 뒤에 붙인 말은 그 시구의 결입니다 — 길흉의 판정이 아니라 그날의 분위기를 읽는 단서이며, 세 가지 말의 뜻은 용어집의 초씨역림 항목에 적어 두었습니다. 어느 효가 움직이는지는 각자의 사주에 그날의 간지를 더한 수가 정합니다.
焦氏易林의 육일칠분(六日七分) 배열에서 중택태는 추분(秋分)의 첫머리를 지키는 정괘(正卦)입니다. 감(坎)·진(震)·리(離)·태(兌) 네 정괘는 동지·춘분·하지·추분이 드는 순간부터 하루가 조금 못 되는 동안을 하나씩 맡고, 그 뒤를 열다섯 괘가 엿새쯤씩 잇습니다. 해마다 양력 9월 22~23일 무렵, 낮과 밤의 길이가 다시 같아지는 날입니다. 바로 앞은 지난 분기의 마지막 괘 산천대축(山天大畜), 바로 뒤는 이 분기의 첫 괘 산화비(山火賁)입니다. 정확한 날짜는 그해 절기에 따라 조금씩 달라지며, 오늘 어떤 괘가 하루를 맡는지는 본편에서 사주와 함께 확인할 수 있습니다. 날짜를 이렇게 나누는 까닭은 용어집의 직일 항목에 적어 두었습니다.
기뻐하고 어울리는 자리입니다. 태(兌)는 못이자 기쁨 — 벗과 서로 배우고 나누는 즐거움(朋友講習)이지요. 기쁨은 바름 위에 설 때 이로우니(利貞), 아첨의 기쁨이 아니라 진실된 화합이라야 합니다. 즐기되 바름을 잃지 않는 것이 관건입니다.

兌 is lake, and joy. As two lakes feed each other and never run dry, people give and receive gladness. When the Judgment says it prospers and rightness is favourable (亨 利貞), true joy does not stop at an outward smile but lasts when the inside is upright — a season where laughter and exchange grow warm.
Both trigrams are Lake(兌 ☱), of the Metal(金) phase. Two Lakes joined side by side, feeding each other — a place of joy.
The Jiaoshi Yilin sets sixty-four verses under every hexagram. On a day this hexagram keeps, the verse daycolor offers for today can be one of only six — the verses of the six hexagrams reached when a single line moves. If the bottom line moves, it is Oppression(困) · sun through rain; the second, Following(隨) · sun through rain; the third, Breakthrough(夬) · with the current; the fourth, Limitation(節) · sun through rain; the fifth, The Marrying Maiden(歸妹) · sun through rain; the top, Treading / Conduct(履) · sun through rain. The words after each name give the grain of that verse — a cue to its mood, not a verdict of fortune or misfortune; the three are explained under the Jiaoshi Yilin in the glossary. Which line moves is decided by a number drawn from your own saju together with the stems and branches of that day.
In the six-days-seven-fen (六日七分) day-arrangement of the Jiaoshi Yilin, this is one of the four cardinal hexagrams (正卦) — it keeps the head of the Autumn Equinox(秋分) quarter. 坎, 震, 離 and 兌 each hold a little less than a day from the moment a solstice or equinox arrives; fifteen hexagrams then follow, about six days apiece. That is around September 22–23 each year — the day when light and dark stand equal again. This is a place of rejoicing and keeping good company. 兌 is lake, and joy — the gladness of learning and sharing with friends (朋友講習). Joy is favourable when it stands upon rightness (利貞): not the joy of flattery but true harmony. The key is to delight yet not lose rightness.
