점(漸)은 점진, 산 위 나무가 한 해 한 해 자라듯 순서를 밟아 나아가는 자리입니다. 괘사가 여자가 시집가면 길하다(女歸吉)고 한 것처럼, 절차를 건너뛰지 않는 혼례의 차례에 이 괘의 미덕이 있습니다. 서두르지 않고 마디마다 채워 결실로 향하는 시기입니다.

焦氏易林의 육일칠분(六日七分) 배열에서 풍산점은 동지(冬至) 분기의 열한 번째 자리에 놓입니다. 해마다 양력 2월 19일 무렵부터 25일 무렵까지 엿새쯤을 맡으며, 절기로는 우수(雨水) 무렵 — 눈이 비로 바뀌고 얼음이 풀리기 시작하는 때입니다. 바로 앞은 풍뢰익(風雷益), 바로 뒤는 지천태(地天泰)가 하루를 맡습니다. 정확한 날짜는 그해 절기에 따라 조금씩 달라지며, 오늘 어떤 괘가 하루를 맡는지는 본편에서 사주와 함께 확인할 수 있습니다. 날짜를 이렇게 나누는 까닭은 용어집의 직일 항목에 적어 두었습니다.
차례를 밟아 서서히 나아가는 자리입니다. 점(漸)은 기러기가 물가에서 언덕으로 차례로 오르듯 순서 있는 전진 — 급히 건너뛰지 않습니다. 여자가 시집가듯 절차를 지키면 길하니(女歸吉), 단계를 존중하는 꾸준함이 관건입니다.

漸 is gradual advance — the place of moving by stages, as a tree on a mountain grows year by year. As the Judgment says the woman's marrying is fortunate (女歸吉), the virtue of this hexagram lies in the order of a wedding that skips no step. It is a season that fills each joint without haste and moves toward the fruit.
The upper trigram is Wind(巽 ☴, Wood), the lower Mountain(艮 ☶, Earth). A tree growing slowly on a mountain — advancing by orderly stages.
The Jiaoshi Yilin sets sixty-four verses under every hexagram. On a day this hexagram keeps, the verse daycolor offers for today can be one of only six — the verses of the six hexagrams reached when a single line moves. In the six-days-seven-fen (六日七分) day-arrangement of the Jiaoshi Yilin, this hexagram holds the eleventh of the fifteen places in the Winter Solstice(冬至) quarter. In most years that is about six days, from around February 19 to 25, in the solar term Rain Water (雨水) — when snow turns to rain and the ice begins to loosen. The place before it belongs to Increase(益); the place after, to Peace / Harmony(泰). This is a place of advancing gradually, step by step. 漸 is an ordered progress — as wild geese climb by turns from the water's edge to the hill, one does not leap ahead. As with a woman marrying, keeping the proper steps is fortunate (女歸吉); the key is the steadiness that honours each stage.
