Fire(離 ☲) rising, a Lake(兌 ☱) sinking — a hexagram divided, back to back.
睽 is misalignment — eyes looking each a different way. Fire climbs and water falls and they scarcely meet, so it is a time of clashing views. Yet the Judgment says small matters are fortunate (小事吉) — a great accord may be hard, but if you accept the difference and align from small things first, a way opens.
The upper trigram is Fire(離 ☲), the lower Lake(兌 ☱, Metal). Fire rising and a Lake sinking — turned back to back, at odds.
The Jiaoshi Yilin sets sixty-four verses under every hexagram. On a day this hexagram keeps, the verse daycolor offers for today can be one of only six — the verses of the six hexagrams reached when a single line moves. If the bottom line moves, it is Before Completion(未濟) · with the current; the second, Biting Through(噬嗑) · sun through rain; the third, Great Possession(大有) · sun through rain; the fourth, Decrease(損) · sun through rain; the fifth, Treading / Conduct(履) · sun through rain; the top, The Marrying Maiden(歸妹) · with the current. The words after each name give the grain of that verse — a cue to its mood, not a verdict of fortune or misfortune; the three are explained under the Jiaoshi Yilin in the glossary. Which line moves is decided by a number drawn from your own saju together with the stems and branches of that day.
In the six-days-seven-fen (六日七分) day-arrangement of the Jiaoshi Yilin, this hexagram holds the fifth of the fifteen places in the Winter Solstice(冬至) quarter. In most years that is about six days, from around January 15 to 21, in the solar term Minor Cold (小寒) — when the year's cold bites hardest. The place before it belongs to Modesty(謙); the place after, to Pushing Upward(升). The exact dates shift a little each year; which hexagram governs today can be seen, with your own chart, in the main app. Why the days are divided this way is set out under Jikil in the glossary.
This is a place at odds, turned back to back. 睽 is discord and division — like fire and water, natures differ and collide. Yet within difference there is also sameness (同而異), and small matters are fortunate. It loosens when, rather than forcing difference away, you hold it and find the point of contact.
