A Lake(兌 ☱) set beneath Heaven(乾 ☰) — a hexagram of treading carefully.
履 means to tread — a step taken with propriety (禮). The Judgment says one may tread on a tiger's tail and not be bitten Even crossing a dangerous place, keeping courtesy and care wards off harm — how you carry yourself before what you fear decides the outcome.
The upper trigram is Heaven(乾 ☰, Metal), the lower Lake(兌 ☱, Metal). A still Lake beneath firm Heaven — a careful, measured step.
The Jiaoshi Yilin sets sixty-four verses under every hexagram. On a day this hexagram keeps, the verse daycolor offers for today can be one of only six — the verses of the six hexagrams reached when a single line moves. If the bottom line moves, it is Conflict(訟) · with the current; the second, Innocence(无妄) · with the current; the third, The Creative(乾) · sun through rain; the fourth, Inner Truth(中孚) · with the current; the fifth, Opposition(睽) · with the current; the top, The Joyous(兌) · with the current. The words after each name give the grain of that verse — a cue to its mood, not a verdict of fortune or misfortune; the three are explained under the Jiaoshi Yilin in the glossary. Which line moves is decided by a number drawn from your own saju together with the stems and branches of that day.
In the six-days-seven-fen (六日七分) day-arrangement of the Jiaoshi Yilin, this hexagram holds the sixth of the fifteen places in the Summer Solstice(夏至) quarter. In most years that is about six days, from around July 23 to 29, in the solar term Major Heat (大暑) — when the year's heat is at its height. The place before it belongs to Dispersion(渙); the place after, to Retreat(遯). The exact dates shift a little each year; which hexagram governs today can be seen, with your own chart, in the main app. Why the days are divided this way is set out under Jikil in the glossary.
This is a time to tread a perilous place with courtesy and care. Not being bitten though you step on the tiger's tail is a matter of bearing. Before a strong rival or a high seat, be respectful without being servile, and a path opens.
